  1. Once Congress starts investigations into specific cases of criminal wrongdoing, the whole game changes. Most significantly, it seriously reduces the administration’s ability to hide behind claims of executive privilege. What we’re talking here is a clash between something that is written into the constitution (congress’s right and duty to act as a check on the WH) and something (privilege) that isn’t. Even the partisan SCOTUS currently in those chambers will have a very hard time ruling in Bush’s favor. In other news, Arlen Specter is promising to investigate whether recent rulings by the Supreme Court square with statements made by Alito and Roberts in their confirmation hearings. They may at least have to recuse themselves from any and all decisions involving GW Bush, they may be found to have ‘lied on their resumes’ and face impeachment themselves.

Shit, meet fan. Fan, shit. Now, play nice.

  2. When I saw the news this morning, and it was running BACK-TO-BACK, I seriously thought of how to get out of working today. I wanted to read and gab. Make sure I have everything down so I can tell everyone I know what’s what. I’m SO sick of this, and I’m especially sick of the Democratic leadership backing down.

Congress is doing nothing more than “their duty” and what does the administration say, ‘Congress is out of control.’ Well, it’s pretty damned obvious who’s out of control.

I just got home; haven’t seen this yet. “In other news, Arlen Specter is promising to investigate whether recent rulings by the Supreme Court square with statements made by Alito and Roberts in their confirmation hearings.
