Crandall Canyon Update – mine to be closed?

I was just in on my way to work and NPR was running this story.  According to Bob Murray, co-owner of Crandall Canyon mine (Grewal), the mine will be sealed and closed.

Happened on over to ‘The Pump Handle’ and found another Tom Bothell piece they’ve posted.  These few sentences are instructive.

It’s “unacceptable, because fatality-by-fatality reviews show that most of these deaths could have been prevented by a combination of systematic risk assessment, conscientious mine management, diligent regulatory enforcement, and adoption of technologies that are taken for granted elsewhere.
