Yet Another Miscarriage of Justice Righted

Bryant Gumbel, as far as know, still has a program on HBO about taking a look at stories in sports.  I’m not a fan of Bryant Gumbel nor of sports, but I just happened to catch a story he did on Genarlow Wilson two years ago or so.genarlow-wilson2.jpg  I’ve been following Wilson’s case but it IS an absolute miscarriage of justice.

Just saw this in the NYT

ATLANTA, Oct. 26 — The Georgia Supreme Court today ended the 10-year prison sentence of a man who was convicted in 2003 of having consensual oral sex with another teenager. The court said the harsh sentence violated the Constitution’s protection against cruel and unusual punishment.

In a 4-to-3 ruling, the court’s majority said the sentence was “grossly disproportionate” to the crime, which the justices said “did not rise to the level of culpability of adults who prey on children.”

Genarlow is now 21; he’s to be released this afternoon.

. . . . .  It’s about goddamned time!

Getting Sick of The Bullshit Again……

I’m getting sick of it. I’m weary ……

. . . . . . even listing what’s doing it makes me want to cry – out of frustration, out of anger.

Locally – it was reading about Tom Luna’s brother being sought for sexual molestation of a relative at 5:30 this morning. I wrote about it, haven’t published it just yet, but 43rd State Blues had a bit on it. Tom Luna was a proponent and promoter of the worthless, ‘No Child Left Behind.’ (Another Orwellian venture by the Bushites.) How he got elected over Marilyn Howard is STILL beyond me! Must fall under that policy some apparently hold that ‘any worthless male is better than any woman.‘ (And not to mention his support of Larry Craig when Craig pretended to resign at the Depot.)

But the latest that just finished frosting the cake: Blaming the California wildfires on al Qaeda.

Just before that, Pelosi and other Democratic leaders in the House caved to that chickenshit John Boehner* who forced Pete Stark to apologize for “telling it like it is” but saying what needs to be said more often and just as plainly. Did Nancy and the boyz point out the disgusting veto or the ReThugs voting against the SCHIP bill NOT to mention the Democrats who did as well? Oh please, let’s not piss anyone off.

Of course the biggest disappointment is Nancy Pelosi and what my friend, Dave, at Les pointed out the other day. “The Dems are just Republicans in blue ties.” My respect started sliding with the “impeachment is off the table’ mantra of hers However, I have NO respect left for that woman after discussing the protesters outside her home in San Francisco.

But her spirits soured instantly when somebody asked about the anger of the Democratic “base” over her failure to end the war in Iraq.

It was a rather fierce response to the party’s liberal base, which frightens many a congressional Democrat. But it wasn’t out of character for the new speaker. Pelosi’s fixed and constant smile makes her appear as if she is cutting an ad for a whitening toothpaste. But when you listen to the words that come from her grinning maw, the smile seems more akin to that of a barracuda.

Step back, Dana Milbank!

Margaret Kimberley at Common isn’t nearly as kind, ”

Her Quisling like behavior has led protesters to her front door in San Francisco, but she has only herself to blame for the inconveniences she and her rich neighbors now suffer. The great unwashed masses have a right to assemble at her home, her office, or anywhere else they choose in order to exercise what is left of their right to speak freely. Her own words show her level of contempt for the democratic process.

It is clear that Nancy Pelosi’s reign as Speaker has been an absolute disaster for the Democratic party and for the entire nation. Her eagerness to cooperate with the Bush regime is matched only by her incompetence in leading Congress.

Quisling is synonymous with traitor. Quisling was a Norwegian fascist, founder of the National Union in the 1930s, which following the Nazi takeover of Norway, became the ONLY party. Quisling was appointed prime minister by the Nazis and was collaborator extraordinaire. Following WWII, he was held for trial, convicted, and executed.

I got hold of Naomi Klein’s newest book, ‘The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism.’ On the jacket, this is the first paragraph:

At the most chaotic juncture in Iraq’s civil war, a new law is unveiled that will allow Shell and BP to claim the country’s vast oil reserves. Immediately following September 11, the Bush administration quietly outsources the running of the “War on Terror” to Halliburton and Blackwater. After a powerful tsunamis devastates the coasts of Southeast Asia, the pristine beaches are auctioned off to tourist resorts. New Orleans’s residents, still scattered from Hurricane Katrina, discover that their public housing, hospitals, and schools will never be reopened.

The shit that keeps you off-balance. I sometimes get a glimpse of why some folks take matters into their own hands, why someone feels compelled to blow themselves up to make a point or ‘get back’ at someone or something, why other folks drown themselves in the very mundaness of life so there’s no room for depth or enlightening moments.

And you know what? I haven’t even gotten to religion and the shit that pisses me off THERE!

So I guess that means I’ll just have to go to work this afternoon and get on with it.

whose name is pronouced Böhner (more Boohner) not Bayner, per German heritage….but then I think he looks like a pedophile nimrod with his perpetually over-tanned self.
