An Amazing Woman

Today’s Sunday Statesman has a story on a remarkable woman, Lorry Roberts.

The 80-year-old Boisean has devoted much of her life to helping those less fortunate, including survivors of war, poor families, refugees, orphans, troubled teens and senior citizens without loved ones to care for them.

She has volunteered and facilitated programs for The Salvation Army, Girl Scouts of America, Planned Parenthood, the Snake River Alliance and Hays Shelter Home, to name a few. But in the Treasure Valley, Roberts is best known for her work with Soroptimist International, a service organization devoted to advancing human rights and enhancing the lives of women.

I was the beneficiary of a scholarship from the Soroptimists while attending Boise State, as well as a grant.

Soroptimist International of Boise Women’s Opportunity Awards program provides cash grants to women who are working to better their lives through additional skills training and education.
