Lighting Boise’s Menorrah

Although Hanukkah will end on Wednesday, December 12th, there will be a lighting of the Boise menorah as part of the December holiday season.

Hanukkah: the “eight-day celebration of the Jewish victory over Assyrian Greeks 2,100 years ago. When the revolt was over, the Jews found one container of oil, enough to burn for a single day in their temple. But the light lasted for eight days.”

I still have a menorah I bought in a tiny antique store in Munich some 25 years ago, as well as the beer stein from Lowenbräu’s brewery on Nymphenburger Straβe.  Ahh …. Lowenbräu does bring holiday cheer.

Oh – that’s right, we’re talking Hanukkah.

Disclaimer: The menorah below is from the Washington Mall in D.C.; not Boise’s menorah. 😉

WHAT: Lighting of Idaho’s tallest menorah (13 feet) sponsored by the Chabad Jewish Center of Idaho

WHEN: 7 p.m. Sunday

WHERE: Myrtle Street and Capitol Boulevard
