Totally unrelated is a small series on evolution in the New York Times written by Olivia Judson – an evolutionary biologist. Following the first in her, as she terms it, occasional series, ‘A Mutant Obsession’, is the comment below. So you know it’s worth the read.

From the mouth of some another stupid cleric entombed in the Catholic hierarchy whose ass apparently does the talking for him, Monsignor J. Gaston Hebert, who oversees all of Arkansas.

The Diocese of Little Rock is urging its members not to donate to a breast cancer foundation known for its fundraising races across the globe because the group supports Planned Parenthood.

The diocese says the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation, which has invested about $1 billion in cancer outreach and research, gives money to Planned Parenthood to hold breast exams and offer education to women in its clinics.

Well, guess what – notwithstanding the facts, but when has that stopped ‘the Catholic Church’ or its red-skirted minions – the Komen Foundation requested a meeting with the monsignor, got it, and …… AND – an apology was actually issued from the aforementioned stupid cleric.

Hebert said his earlier contention – that those donations could free up funding for abortions and contraceptive services – “turned out not to be true. … To let that statement stand would be an act of injustice.”

Now to get to the point where backtracking is not immediate in one’s support for Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood provides invaluable health services to women. Misogyny is so hard to combat.
