Rosh Hashanah – L’Shana Tova

The Senate returns on Wednesday and the House on Thursday after a break for the Jewish New Year holiday of Rosh Hashanah. No laws can be passed in their absence but their staffs could work on a revised plan.

Saw a bit of a dustup between Harry Reid and Pete Domenici (R-NM) this morning while watching C-SPAN about calling another vote if the House vote failed. Truthfully, I was cleaning up in the kitchen and semi-listening. I heard Reid say it would have to wait until after the Jewish holiday because some congressional representatives in their house would not be there to vote and it was too important a vote to cast without them. Domenici got a tad testy, and Reid simply said he wasn’t going to call senators back because it was a religious holiday ……. until after Rosh Hashanah. I couldn’t figure out why Domenici was ‘protesting.’

Ran across this piece about the abundance of religious holidays. I understand. While stationed in Germany (Bavaria), it seemed the Germans were celebrating one religious holiday or another.
