Solis Vote Tomorrow

This came in just a bit ago, according to TPM:

President Obama’s Labor Secretary nominee, former Rep. Hilda Solis (D-CA), will get her long-awaited confirmation vote in the Senate labor committee tomorrow, a aide to that panel just told me.

Solis’ nomination had been slowed down by Republicans seeking to twist her arm on the Employee Free Choice Act, a longtime priority of the labor movement and a stated goal of the Obama administration. (Here’s more from Matt on the internal politics of that debate.)

The committee has the votes to approve Solis even if every GOPer dissents. The question then is if, and how quickly, a Republican senator subsequently places an anonymous hold on her nomination. We’ll be watching

So will I.  This is one fight I’m interested in.

It looks like that meeting will be at 2:00 pm tomorrow.

Acting Labor Secretary chosen

Marc Ambinder at the political outlet of The Atlantic has it that President Obama selected “Edward Hugler, currently the deputy assistant secretary for administration, has spent more than 30 years in a variety of functions in the department” until Solis’ nomination goes through.

Apparently it’s not just her support of labor unions or being pro-worker. It’s that she was ‘treasurer’ of American Rights at Work that is mightily supportive of the Employee Free Choice Act.

Really?

Once again – the mission statement of the Office of Labor for the U.S. government. Continue reading

The Demise of Pajamas Media

According to Media Bistro – who catches the story from The Village Voice:

Pajamas Media, a consortium of mostly rightbloggers founded in 2005, has announced that it will wind down the baby-pak-in-pjs1Pajamas Media Blogger and advertising network effective March 31. The group’s originally stated goal was “to replace the established media sources with a network of … ‘citizen-journalists.'”

Their latest ‘big name’ citizen-journalist was that jackass made infamous by John McCain.

Apparently, it has something to do with revenue – money, to the rest of us.

But as with all things, eventually money talked and bullshit walked. Last week Simon told Pajamas affiliates that “we have decided to wind down the Pajamas Media Blogger and advertising network effective March 31, 2009,” and thereafter they would be free to hustle up ads as best they could.

Walking bullshit.  Now THAT’S a picture.
