The Senate committee session scheduled this afternoon for Hilda Solis’ nomination for Labor Secretary has been postponed. The Washington Post is reporting on a story that broke in USA Today (a bastion of journalistic integrity) this morning regarding – just guess – taxes or tax liens, to be more precise, on the husband of the nominee for Labor Secretary, Sam Sayyad.
“Senate committee today abruptly canceled a session to consider President Obama’s nomination of Rep. Hilda Solis to be labor secretary in the wake of a report saying that her husband yesterday paid about $6,400 to settle tax liens against his business — including liens that had been outstanding for as long as 16 years.”
I don’t know that Solis is responsible if it’s her husband’s business. I do know, I’m getting sick of this. Pay your fucking taxes fer chrisssakes.
From Robert Gibbs:
At a press conference, Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs said of Solis: “I read the story in USA TODAY and it quotes somebody who works here. Obviously we know about the story. We reviewed her tax returns and her tax returns are in order. Her husband had an issue.”
“She’s not a partner in that business,” Gibbs said. “We’re not going to penalize her for her husband’s business mistakes.”
Just saw this tidbit on Market Watch: (story by Sue Chang)
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — Walgreen Co. said Thursday it will buy 12 Rite Aid stores in California and Idaho, including seven in San Francisco and five in eastern Idaho. Some Walgreen and Rite Aid stores will be combined with the transition expected to occur by the end of March. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
I’m guessing this, ‘eastern Idaho’ doesn’t include Boise.
