Saving Dollars for April Events

Brandi Carlile is coming to town; she’ll be on April 20th, Monday, at the Knitting Factory.

Amy Goodman will be here on April 23rd. Usually watch Democracy Now! on Channel 11 in the evening, actually night.  Oh, here we go….a bit more below….

We have also scheduled a special, intimate reception for Amy Goodman with drinks and appetizers at The Red Feather Lounge beginning at 5:30 pm! Tickets for this special function will be limited to 18. For information, please call 484-8000.

Then I happened across this on the calendar of the Idaho Peace Coalition.

Greg Mortensen, author of Three Cups of Tea, is speaking in Boise on April 27th at the Boise Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.

Someone had just mentioned his book this afternoon so might have to check it out.  Just finished ‘Edgar Sawtelle.’

Anyone else out there addicted to watching ‘The Amazing  Race?’

Zeb Bell’s Pitiful Party

Since approximately mid-2008, two of Idaho’s progressive bloggers have been keeping tabs on southern Idaho’s radio talk broadcast  ‘Zeb at the Ranch.’  I’m not about to rehash what’s been unearthed as a result of their coverage.  I am going to confront something posted at The Mountain Goat Report – a question in relation to an accusation from Mr. Zebbell.

First – there’s this.  It’s a two-minute clip of Mr. Zebbell with a rough transcript provided below. Make sure you either listen OR read the words.

Ah yeah, let’s see – ya know. I do want to mention something else … quickly.

For all the far left attacks by the liberal, left, hate-filled bloggers – and these people really are hate-filled. They have no shame and they have no conscience evidently.

And if you or I stand for a value system…..we stand for a value system: believe in the bible, believe in god, believe in the 10 commandments. We try to live our lives. We all make mistakes, and every day we try to get up and say I’m sorry for what I did yesterday, I will try not to repeat it and try to be better human beings and better to our fellow man.

But if you stand up for a value system – they come after ya. Yep.

They had resorted to some of the lowest forms attacks on the blogs, on me, my life, and even – my physical challenges.  I make no bones about it. I’m all busted up and I’m on crutches. Oh boy – they really went after that. Continue reading

Hostages of Bryan Fischer?

As noted here the other day, Bryan Fischer of the Idaho Values Alliance – no link to be provided – had this monstrosity posted on his website, via 43rd State Blues.  It references a plane crash in Butte, Montana at the edge of a cemetery not quite making it into the airport. There were no survivors.

You by now will have read about the plane crash in Montana which took the lives of 14 people. What you may not have read is that among the victims were members of Bud Feldkamp’s family, including two of his daughters, two sons-in-law, and five grandchildren. Feldkamp, it turns out, is the owner of the nation’s largest privately owned, for-profit abortion chain. His clinics perform more abortions in California even than Planned Parenthood. The plane, in another tragically ironic twist, crashed in a Roman Catholic cemetery which contains a memorial to victims of abortion, the ‘Tomb of the Unborn.’ Pro-lifers had prayed for years in front of his mansion, pleading with him and praying for him to repent and warning him for his children’s sake that, “If you do not hate bloodshed, bloodshed will pursue you.”

Then Thursday, I believe, Kevin Richert (Idaho Statesman) had written that he was STUNNED at the posting on Mr. Fischer’s site.

Really?

Tammy Bruce / Zeb Bell & The Village Idiot

Those of us who are progressive bloggers here know of the partnered efforts The Mountain Goat Report and The Political Game are keeping to monitor the hate spewing of ‘local’ broadcaster, Zeb Bell, spotlighting his bigoted rantings.  MG now is producing a daily rundown of the content and guest spots of Bell’s show.

A few afternoons ago while visiting Jack & Jill Politics, a commenter left a note with a link to Huffington Post.  Another nasty conservative talk show host, Laura Ingraham, happened to have substitute sitting in for her that afternoon – one Tammy Bruce – who enraged some by referring to Michelle Obama as “trash.”

“That’s what he’s married to,” Bruce said. “…You know what we’ve got? We’ve got trash in the White House.

And so rikyrah at Jack & Jill responded, focusing on video of the meeting of First Lady Michelle Obama held with several prominent women to help with her projects. Also include in rikyrah’s post was the C-SPAN link of Michelle Obama talking to small group of high schoolers in D.C.  Here you see Michelle Obama speaking to a small group of mostly juniors & seniors about being labeled as “talking white” while growing up attending school on the south side of Chicago and what it took to buck the current. Ed Henry: Piss Ant

Just in case anyone is swayed by Bill Bennett or any of the other head up their ass media types – Chuck Todd, are ya listening?  Especially those dimwits at CNN.  And for the last fucking time – you don’t have the best political team on cable news.  Because if you did, you wouldn’t have to remind us perpetually; we’d know. Since you don’t, you think if you say enough we’ll – what? – eventually say…… ohmigawd! I’ve been soooo wrong.  CNN DOES have the best political team on cable news!

Now – Ed Henry got the snot knocked out of him last night with it being handed to him on an old chipped platter.  The president wasn’t talking about Andrew Cuomo.  He was talking TO and ABOUT Ed Henry.

Permits On Hold

Excitement versus fear.

Ecstatic environmentalists in contrast to those in the mining industry who predict “massive layoffs” due to the Environmental Protection Agency’s announcement that mountaintop removal mining permits have been put on hold until:

the projects’ impacts on streams and wetlands can be reviewed

If truly interested in what mountaintop mining is all about, here’s the two camps: Mountaintop Mining and I Love Mountains; here’s the scoop from the EPA on mountaintop mining.

Jeff Biggers at Alternet has more:

It’s been a long time coming, but the EPA made a breakthrough announcement today, calling for a halt to select mountaintop removal permits, in order to address their impact on water quality. Whether this is the beginning of a transition to abolish mountaintop removal is yet to be seen, but it is a huge step forward for our country.
