Permits On Hold

Excitement versus fear.

Ecstatic environmentalists in contrast to those in the mining industry who predict “massive layoffs” due to the Environmental Protection Agency’s announcement that mountaintop removal mining permits have been put on hold until:

the projects’ impacts on streams and wetlands can be reviewed

If truly interested in what mountaintop mining is all about, here’s the two camps: Mountaintop Mining and I Love Mountains; here’s the scoop from the EPA on mountaintop mining.

Jeff Biggers at Alternet has more:

It’s been a long time coming, but the EPA made a breakthrough announcement today, calling for a halt to select mountaintop removal permits, in order to address their impact on water quality. Whether this is the beginning of a transition to abolish mountaintop removal is yet to be seen, but it is a huge step forward for our country.

Ed Henry Gets THE Smackdown

Perhaps you saw this exchange between Ed Henry and President Obama this evening during the president’s news conference.  Ed gets the followup remark/question for the president enquiring why it “took days to become outraged?”  Oh dear…..

You’ll see that brief exchange at the end of the video. If you’d rather get to the smack-down in hurry, go here.

Now ole’ Ed might have thought he was going to catch the president in a gotcha moment, but it didn’t happen.  The president’s response was priceless!  I like to know what I’m talking about before I speak.”

B-Serious has a blog of his own and blogs at Jack & Jill Politics, and he offers his perspective of the dust-off between Ed and the president.

And you just know, it’s going to be EVERYWHERE tomorrow orrrr Right Now!
