Surrounding the Capitol for Education

Since my Strawberry Shortcake look-a-like starts kindergarten this fall at Lowell, this is for her.  Not to mention to all the tremendous teachers I’ve had throughout my life, most specifically, Mrs. Hackenberg at Hawthorne Elementary.  Due to the passage of SB 1108 this morning, this action will be undertaken tomorrow.

To protest the passage of Senate Bill 1108 and lawmakers’ refusal to listen to their constituents, Day of Action activities are planned statewide on Wednesday, March 9.

In Boise, a human chain will circle the Capitol starting at 4:30 p.m., followed by a rally at Capitol Park at 5:30 p.m. Parents, students, and community members are invited to support educators from Boise, Caldwell, Kuna, Meridian, Mountain Home, Nampa, Vallivue, and across the Treasure Valley by joining us at the Capitol. Other events planned around the state on Wednesday include:

  1. How did the event go? I know the Repbulicans rammed the bargaining rights thru today. Just wondering what happened with your education rally in the midst of all that. Sounded crazy over twitter. I taught Kindergarten for 10 years and home school now. I love education & follow what is happening on other states because of all the budget shortfalls. I’m in Tx btw. 🙂 Educators in Tx are rallying in Austin this weekend. Seems like our country is going crazy. Just curious if you guys had turn out or made headway. So great that you are fighting for your little girl! PS-I haven’t blogged in forever if you happen to visit my site. Good luck from Texas!!!

  2. We turned out; it was amazing. There are pictures I’ll post later. I’m soo tired; however there’s a question & answer thing at a local high school with the Secretary of Education who submitted the plans before our legislature and one of my reps – Brian Cronin. Just wondering if I’m up for explosiveness this evening.

For clarification, the 5 year-old is my granddaughter. Most of those who read here or check in are ‘local bloggers’ and so they know that. I rarely expect anyone else to even comment.

Even though I’m a product of public schools with private (college), I’ve been tempted to home school our little darlink! However, Mom & Dad are pretty involved and drag her to all kinds of things & places so we’ll see.
