Surrounding the Capitol for Education

Since my Strawberry Shortcake look-a-like starts kindergarten this fall at Lowell, this is for her.  Not to mention to all the tremendous teachers I’ve had throughout my life, most specifically, Mrs. Hackenberg at Hawthorne Elementary.  Due to the passage of SB 1108 this morning, this action will be undertaken tomorrow.

To protest the passage of Senate Bill 1108 and lawmakers’ refusal to listen to their constituents, Day of Action activities are planned statewide on Wednesday, March 9.

In Boise, a human chain will circle the Capitol starting at 4:30 p.m., followed by a rally at Capitol Park at 5:30 p.m. Parents, students, and community members are invited to support educators from Boise, Caldwell, Kuna, Meridian, Mountain Home, Nampa, Vallivue, and across the Treasure Valley by joining us at the Capitol. Other events planned around the state on Wednesday include:

Union Thuggery, My Ass!

Read this from KTVB via the AP.

Apparently someone identified as “an angry teacher showed up” at the home of Tom Luna’s mother, who is 71 years of age.  It’s not something I would do nor is it something I’d support.  It’s Luna’s comments to which I take exception.

BOISE — Public schools chief Tom Luna says he had to file a police report after an angry teacher showed up at his 71-year-old mother’s home in Nampa on Saturday.

Luna has been the object of anger from teachers for his proposals to overhaul Idaho’s K-12 education system. He’s currently proposing a list of changes to his plan.

“It was just totally uncalled for,” Luna said.  “When you look at the emails that have gone out, where they’ve listed people’s addresses, they’ve listed their home phone numbers, they’ve said ‘Go talk to their neighbors and tell their neighbors to go tell them not to support this.  It’s just union thuggery as far as I’m concerned.”

No arrests were made.

Union thuggery?  Surely you fucking jest, Mr. Luna.  Take a look in the mirror.   Listing people’s addresses, home phone numbers, harassing neighbors – you know where that shit comes from – your side.  It’s been done for years when it comes to ‘exposing’ those who support Democratic or left-leaning policies.   Ask any abortion & health care service provider.

I guess that so-called degree in ‘Weights & Measures’ didn’t include studying American History.

Oh – and for the record, one teacher who appears at the door of your mother isn’t “the teachers union” ya fucking dolt.

Come up with an EDUCATION plan and then we’ll talk.

Gettin’ more like Communism

Stupidity rocks.

Gary Tuchman reports from North Carolina about a school that will not be showing President Obama’s.  He finds a correlation between the political climate of the area and who supported the president or John McCain.  In this particular school district, 67% of the vote went to John McCain.

Video at CNN

“It’s getting more like Communism, saying ‘we gonna do this and do that’ ”  – What?

So telling someone what to do is communism?

Too Angry To Scrapbook

Oh dear – today’s the DAY!   Everyone got your Karl Marx primer?

And how come Fred is rarely mentioned with Karl?  After all, he supplied ‘the capital.’

Just Too Stupid

Yesterday my 13 year-old nephew and I had a discussion about the president’s speech to the nations schoolkids on Tuesday, tomorrow.   His words were: “just too stupid.”  I don’t know what to tell ya.  He’s grown in an LDS household and it’s been pretty, um, Republican leaning.  Until his parents got a divorce three years ago, his mother lost her job with the Meridian School District 18 months ago and was just recently hired by the Boise School District, and financially it was a bit . . . tight.  Reality bites.

Waiting to hear what KTVB will show Tom Luna saying about the president’s ‘message’ being relayed to our country’s children, especially those across Idaho.  Whoa!  Carolyn Holly actually said “right-wing.”  But some Republicans are concerned the president will indoctrinate their children with socialist ideology.  Did she say ideology?

Okay – Idaho Falls schools will not show the speech from the president.

Tom Luna sees nothing wrong with the president’s speech.  He considers it “very wise.” It’s along the same lines he or the governor or others tell students.  He is encouraging parents to come and watch with kids, and Boise and Meridian students can ‘opt out.’

First hint of something up when I found several over-the-toppers who were going ballistic, this one among them.  Read at your peril, and be forewarned – you can respond, however the blog owner isn’t too hip to that entire ‘free speech’ meme and very controlling when it comes to the comments unless she has some cute flippant answer.

The inimitable Suzie Madrak  @ Crooks & Liars called it and was writing about the “Wingnuts being in full bloom” about those good folk on the look-out for SOCIALISM inroads by the president.  Never mind that the entire brouhaha was about EDUCATION.    And any attempt to dissuade was met with an immediate slap down, especially if written by one of those blasted ‘wingnuts’ who appeared to be more of a moderate persuasion.  I found myself agreeing with him and had to close that window in Firefox – now!

All right, I think that’s about it on that subject.  I’m off to read the books I checked out from the public library – one on socialism, ya know to make sure I have it right, and the other book is Dave Neiwert’s book: ‘The Eliminationists” which is scary as hell.

And finally . . . . Edgar Linares did speak to some middle school kids at one of the parks today about the president’s speech. Might of been where the Labor Day picnic was being held.  None seemed too concerned about indoctrination.  We’ll check on ’em tomorrow.

Finding A Hook

I love watching baseball.  Not into keeping track of stats or the like; I love watching – simple as that.  My nephews, especially Matthew, have all played baseball.  We watched from T-ball through high school for the past 26 years and are still watching, so this story instantly grabbed me.  It’s from NBC’s Nightly News’ – ‘Making a Difference’ segment.

It features Lucas Taylor who started an organization, 4 Love of the Game, several years ago to find a way to encourage young Native kids to pursue college.  Taylor is a member of the Muscogee Creek nation out of Oklahoma.

I admire people like Lucas Taylor -truly.
